Abstract:
Nowadays one can observe the gradual blurring of the earlier hardly encroachable boundary between the text and the image. Besides the apparent phenomenon of adopting the text fhnetion by the image, there is also the phenomenon of adopting the image function (i. e. the visual function) by the text. Thanks to the development of the media, the texts have acquired some features that earlier were reserved only for the images. It is justified to state that sometimes the text loses its distinctiveness among other graphical elements to such an extent that it turns into one ofthem and having a different form (as it consists ofthe signs ofthe language system) but an similar function. The subject ofthis article is the visual function ofthe text. It has been characterised on the basis of analysis ofsample text units in the media.
